Publications & Programs

The Index runs an active program of conferences, publications, and visiting scholars. Over the last ten years a number of major conferences have been organized by the archive, and the proceedings of some of these have been published.

New Perspectives on the Man of Sorrows inaugurates the series, Themes and Variations, from Studies in Iconography and Medieval Institute Publications. This collection of ten essays offers a spectrum of the latest scholarship on the iconography of the Man of Sorrows, exploring different approaches to the image and a variety of issues related to its scriptural, visual, linguistic and musical expression in Italy and Northern and Central Europe from the late Middle Ages through the Renaissance.
